Taken from Greek Mythology, Queen of the Gorgans, Medusa was famous for her divine beauty, but from a jealous heart Medusa was cursed to turn whomever was brave enough to look into her eyes to stone and her became that of serpents. All looked upon her with not pity, but with horror. This is my impression taken from Greek style paintings i was researching at the time
